Back to Civilization

We woke up early to do our last packing before breakfast. Then headed to the bar for some pineapple juice! Breakfast was eggs with bacon and beans. It hit the spot though before we loaded up the van and headed for Merida.

The ride started off with some excitement. We were stopped outside of town by the Mexican National Guard at a routine checkpoint.

Everyone was a little nervous at first but Kalan asked about their guns and they got excited and started taking out bullets to show us. It was a long hot ride in a not so fancy van unlike when we came. I’ve also never seen anyone switch drivers so many times during a 3 hour trip.

Diego who runs the camp and one of the other employees switched about 4 times. We finally made it back to Merida around 1500 and dropped the turkeys off for the Mexican Department of Agriculture (I think) to sign off on the cites.

We checked into our hotel then made plans with Jeff to go do some shopping and eat at a restaurant that was suggested to us.

After checking out the shops in the hotel we took an Uber to the Mercado de Santa Ana I bought some bracelets there and Jeff was able to find the honey liquor he was looking for.

We walked around to a few other shops trying to find a Mexican Flag for Joshua but they were no where to be found so we decided to catch another Uber to La Chaya Maya.

Matt met us there for dinner and we got 2 big plates of food to share. There were 2 ladies making fresh handmade tortillas that the waiters would bring to the table in a coconut shell. Some of the food was very good some was a little weird but it was really cool to try different authentic Mexican dishes.

After dinner we checked out a couple more shops and the city center before taking an Uber back to the hotel.

The first Uber the app picked came down the road, Matt tried flagging them down they slowed down slightly then when they saw us took off! The app then found us a second car and pretty sure it was one of the smallest cars available. Josh, Jeff and I squeezed in the back and half way to the hotel Josh says, "So Jeff what do you want for Christmas this year?" A joke because it seemed Jeff was sitting on his lap in the close quarters.

Josh and I parted ways with Matt and Jeff and took off for Walmart.

We picked up some drinks, a couple new collars for Molly and snacks then headed back to the hotel to rearrange our bags again to make sure everything will fit. Tomorrow we head home!
