The GRAND CANYON!

Day 3 started a little later than planned but we hit the road around 0730 and headed towards the Grand Canyon..... the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.

The drive was uneventful and when we arrived at Leonard Harrison State Park it was pretty foggy and we were worried about whether we would even be able to see anything. The fog moved in and out of the gorge quickly though and we were able to see the beautiful view.

We debated between checking out the Grand Canyon from Colton State Park on the opposite side ridge or looking for Elk in Benezett. We decided with the rain coming it would be better to save the trails and other ridge for a day when the leaves start changing and check for Elk.

It was a long drive to Benezett but it was beautiful the whole way there. We stopped at several Elk viewing areas to see if they were there but didn't have any luck. The town of Benezett and visitors center didn't result in any Elk either so we decided to head home.

I was exhausted after arriving home but it was a great trip. I would highly recommend a weekend trip to Watkins Glen State Park and the surrounding area. If you go anytime other than summer just check ahead of time to make sure things will be open. There is also a wine trail of the many wineries around Seneca Lake if that's something you enjoy. I hope to go back again some day in the spring or fall.
