ADVENTURES IN MEXICO

One might think that a Mexican adventure would start with a conversation about an all inclusive resort in Cancun or another equally popular costal city. This story, however, is not that lucky.... at least not for me any way. ForJoshua though this is the trip of a lifetime to complete a goal he has been working towards for the last 9 years. Many probably don't know this but the Yucatan Peninsula is the only place in the world to find the Ocellated Turkey, the last breed of turkey in the world that he has not harvested with a bow. This trip (as long as he gets a bird) will be the culmination of his World Slam. He will have killed 6 subspecies of turkey, 4 in the U.S. and 2 in Mexico. So while laying on the beach, snorkeling and nightly entertainment may be more my speed I'm along for the adventure to support him completing his goal that less than 60 people in the world have done with a bow.

The trip has been delayed for 2 years thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, but with less infections and decreased travel restrictions we are finally about to make the 1,940 mile journey from Hollidaysburg, PA to Carlos Cano Cruz, Campeche, Mexico.

Today we drove to Baltimore, MD to stay before our 6am flight to Miami, FL in the morning. Joshua drove on the way down and chose a backwoods, no highway route because it was 2 miles shorter.... but an hour longer. It did make for a much more scenic and exciting ride though. I may have lived in the Appalachian Mountains my entire life but their beauty even in the dead of winter is always awe inspiring. Not to mention the rollercoaster humps of route 77 after entrering into rural Maryland. After a 4 hour trip including a stop at Keystone Country Store in Fourt Loundon, PA we arrived in Baltimore completing the first leg of our journey.

We choose to Stay at the Holiday Inn in Linthicum Heights, MD. The staff has been courteous and the hotel is clean. It is a reasonal price for an overnight stay and I would recommend it to anyone staying before or after a flight from BWI. After a quick bite at McDonalds we tucked in to attempt some sleep before our 0230 wake-up call.

Tomorrow we will complete legs 2 and 3 flying to Miami and then Merida.

And so THE ADVENTURE BEGINS!
