A Day to Relax

We slept in this morning until the super late time of 0730. It is really hard to sleep in here in the mornings. Between the sunlight coming in through the roof and 900 cracks in the walls, the birds speaking loudly with each other and the chorus of roosters you cant really get back to sleep.

We enjoyed a few glasses of orange juice and pineapple juice before and during breakfast. The juice is a lot better here than at home. They both were not as acidic and much smoother than at home. For breakfast we had scrambled eggs with ham and beans. We heard another good story from Jeff about a time he was on an Indian reservation for work. He was hungry and stopped at the only convenience store, there were 3 hot dogs on the rotisserie and got one of them. It tasted like rubber and he regretted his purchase. He had to go back a couple weeks later and when he walked in there were still 2 hot dogs on the rotisserie. I love hearing stories about the other experiences people have had in life. Every meal is filled with great conversation and laughter. Its hotter today than the beginning of the week so we jumped into the pool right after breakfast and stayed in until lunch. The water was cool and inviting and we got a little bit of sun.

The tortoise even took a stroll past the pool while we were in so I got a close up of him eating some grass.

Lunch was pizza and salad. It was very good pizza with a variety of toppings. We just chilled out and talked more after lunch.

After lunch we took a walk around the town with Jeff. The entire town is only about an acre so it didn't take much time. Pretty much every house had their own chickens and goats and stray dogs are all over the place. Its heart breaking to see some of the dogs that are malnourished and completely exhausted. They did seem to be better taken care of here than the strays in Merida.

Jeff will be quail hunting tomorrow morning then we will all go to the Mayan Ruins site. I’m very excited to see the ruins and as much fun as the clinic was I think this will be the highlight of my trip! We played more pool waiting for dinner and Josh won both games this time. Our appetizer before dinner was goat cheese, prosciutto, an apple slice, and blueberry.

Dinner was roasted pork shank, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob.

Dessert was a walnut brownie with ice cream and cinnamon syrup.

It still wasn’t as good as the steak and pasta but it was better than the tuna. More good conversation after dinner and then we headed to bed. I’m beyond excited about the Mayan Ruins tomorrow at Edzna.
